Trips We Love
You’re invited to the longest party in history and you won’t need a car to join the fun. Take the Amtrak Downeaster to Old Orchard Beach. Everything is within walking distance from the Old Orchard Beach station.
The Pier at Old Orchard Beach
Since 1889, the Pier has been the place to be in Southern Maine. People flock from near and far for live music, great food, entertainment and fun. Watch the surfers, the beachgoers and walk out to the end of the pier to escape the summer heat. It’s a scene you don’t want to miss.
The Pier stretches 500 feet into the Atlantic and is filled with souvenir shops and snacks. Sit and enjoy a tasty beverage while overlooking the ocean.
Along with your bathing suit and shades, be sure to bring your appetite. People flock from near and far to indulge in the famous homemade, hand-cut Pier Fries (served with malt vinegar – you gotta try them), ice cream, and lobster rolls.
Boardwalk fun on the beach
Between dips in the ocean, spend the day at Palace Playland, New England’s only beachfront amusement park! Admission is free, so enjoy the ferris wheel, carousel, two roller coasters and other thrill rides that are only steps away from the beach. Stay until after dark on Thursday nights for the fantastic firework display, from June 19 to August 21, 2014.
